Colors of Pahiyas Lucban with Samsung NX10

I only hear about the Pahiyas Festival held every month of May in Lucban, Quezon Province. My idea of the festival is limited to the colorful “kiping” leaves used to decorate the locals’ house facades.

Being a Filipino festival, I just assumed that the local townsfolk celebrated it with merriment similar to other festivals around the Philippines. I have yet to experience the actual Pahiyas.

Not until last May 15, 2010 where Samsung Philippines sent a bus of media people and bloggers from Manila to Lucban to experience Pahiyas!

I was so excited then as it was my first time to witness the Pahiyas Festival. Although traffic was unfortunate and forced us to skip some towns, we arrived in Lucban around 3pm. We had to walk  for about 20 minutes towards the inner streets of the town.

From then on, I witnessed Pahiyas in different shades and colors.

As part of the SamsungPahiyas tour, we got to use Samsung’s latest products in the camera line. I got to use the new mirrorless Samsung NX10 with interchangeable lenses. It’s their new-concept camera that boasts of high performance and portability. My personal camera takes a backseat for a while. 🙂

Check out the Pahiyas photos I got below.

This traditional festival dictates a showcase of the abundance in harvest by decorating houses with fruits and vegetables. basically everything part of their agricultural produce or handicrafts.

A symbolic representative of this is the ‘kiping‘ which are rice wafers shaped as leaves. It is made with different colors to serve as decorations. It is later on eaten grilled or fried.

The colors of the kiping and the creativity of the locals made the Pahiyas festival as one of the most colorful today.

I hope to explore the Pahiyas Festival from the other areas of Quezon next time. I believe, their Pahiyas Festival would be distinct in some way or the other, and even possible with Samsung again. 🙂
