December 26, January 2 are not Philippine Holidays

2012 Philippine Holidays

With the release of the list of 2012 Philippine Holidays early December, a lot were speculating that December 26, 2011 and January 2, 2012 would eventually be declared a Philippine holiday as well by the government. This is not so.

Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda reiterated that Proclamation 84 issued by President Aquino did not include December 26, 2011 and January 2, 2012 to become a holiday, and will remain to be so.

December 25, Christmas Day, is traditionally observed as a holiday in the Philippines; while December 31 is a special non-working holiday. Moreover, December 30, Rizal Day, is another holiday.

I hope that clears that up – December 26, 2011 and January 2, 2012 are not December Philippine holidays (at least for this year).

  1. What about those employees in Manila who will go home for Christmas, does it means that they have to travel on the eve of Christmas day just to work on Monday? Especially those employees from the far north like cagayan and isabela with 12 hours travel time. OMG, be considerate naman!

  2. January 2 might be okay since celebration is January 1 midnight and people can maybe travel during the day. But December 26 should be a holiday. Did the president expect people to cut short people’s celebration on the 25th so they can travel to their places of work for the 26th? Or maybe celebrate on the 24th instead LOL. Well, you’re good if you reside with your family at the same city or place where you work. They just don’t like to pay us maybe for that one day of vacation? They need more money for their pockets, I guess. Oh, and good for them they won’t experience the horror at the bus stations during those days.

Ano ba yan kasi mas prioritize nila ang chinese new year kasi dugong ganun sila ??? Pilipinas Katolikong bansa yan. Major occasion ang pasko samin. starting 2400hrs ng 25 till 2359hrs ng Dec25 2011 ! ! ! ! Bibiyahe ako ng 2400hrs ng Dec26?????? Ha ?! ! ! ! !

  4. Well, the president does not know how important for most Filipinos to come home to their family on Christmas day. Why? Because he is a bachelor. Why would he care! Filipino work force will have to sacrifice once again, never mind that we are the one who pay the taxes, never mind that we will suffer the agony of traffic and stress just to go home to our hometown, and come back immediately for work before 26, why should he care! We are not the greedy businessmen, we are just the work force. We don’t deserve to take a vacation and relax.

  5. Under RA No. 9492 provides that holidays, except those which are religious in nature, are moved to the nearest Monday unless otherwise modified by law, order or proclamation.

That means, December 26, 2011 should be a Holiday since December 25, 2011 falls on a Sunday! It says on the aforementioned Republic Act that when a holiday that falls on a weekend should be moved to the nearest Monday…

This administration does not know or even try to know what the Proclamation means!!!

  6. In the event the holiday falls on a Wednesday, the holiday will be observed on the Monday of that week. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, the holiday will be observed on the Monday that follows!

December 25, 2011 falls on Sunday so December 26, 2011 should be a holiday!

Do they read or know what the Proclamation really mean or they just sit on there throne without knowing anything they do???

  7. Why isn’t this all set by Congress in law? I don’t understand why ever year we go through this hassle of asking what is and what is not a holiday. Of not knowing.

Congress should do its job and come up with a simple formula for all holiday for now until, well, whenever…the calendar is not changing. We know what it is going to be for the next 100 or 1,000 years. Some can be moved to a Monday regardless of day (as what happened with Memorial Day in the US moved from May 30 to the last Monday of May and many other holidays in many countries). Some holidays, like Independence Day, Christmas and New Years, should always be held on the actual day and if that day falls on Sunday, then Sunday is the holiday but the day off is that Monday. Why should workers lose a day off?

It’s all formulas. Congress should do its job and write the formulas into the law and relive the Philippines from the uncertainty of what is happening year after year. This constant changing of holidays is so very backward, so very embarrassing. Can’t we be more professional about this?

  8. i wish to know if our good presdnt and his cabnet will resume their wok and presence on their table on Dec.26 and Jan.2 ???

I only hope and pray that some one can return to me and show me proofs…

  9. I wish to be informed as well if our “good” president will resume work on 02 January 2012. Of course, being a bachelor he really doesn’t understand how does it felt to be a family man whose only wish is to spend more time with his love ones. I will be spending my vacation in the northern province and would have to go back in the city on 01 January 2012 so that i can come to work on 02 January 2012! Such hassle! One more thing, I am a FILIPINO, I don’t celebrate chinese festivals! If he is a FILIPINO, as he claimed to be, then he should focus on what is relevant to the FILIPINO PEOPLE, even if it only means spending one more day with your love ones!

  10. ^ Exactly what I said… Pnoy is a bachelor, he cannot relate. As his boss (like what he said in his inauguration speech-” Kayo ang boss ko”!) I expect him to be in the office by 8:30AM on January 2, 2012. To Nick and Sato, let us monitor this being his “boss” we need to know. I’m beginning to regret why did I vote to for him, he clearly is not walking the talk. We the tax payers (the majority of the work force) are the least of his priorities.
