Since 2001. the Lopez Memorial Museum has introduced a semi-annual exhibition approach on its collection. The different programs focus on varying expression of thoughts and aims to share them close at hand with contemporary ideas.

Double Take Exhibit

Double Take on Luna and Hidalgo

One exhibition they are currently holding is Double Take. The program highlights the works of Juan Luna and Felix Resurrection Hidalgo alongside a backdrop of Spanish colonial period artists and prominent figures like Jose Rizal.

Coordinates & Maps

A rare old Philippine Map at the Lopez Museum

A congruent part of the exhibition is called Coordinates, a collection of the museum’s old and rare maps including a 1734 Murillo Velarde map of the Philippines.

Double Take Exhibition @ Lopez Memorial Museum

You would appreciate the exploration of the Philippine islands through the visual development of our country’s map in time. There was even a map where the Palawan islands was classified differently (by color) as part of Borneo and not of the Philippines.

And lastly, the library section of the museum housed a modest showcase of text and images such as newspaper, comics, and artifacts which were subjected to influences of (or rebellion against) the prevailing American colonial mentality of those times. The exhibit is entitled “Tutelage“.

Adjacent to the library is a brief exhibition of LVN films on how movies during the post-American independence showcased some important accounts of our nation’s history.

Visit the Lopez Memorial Museum and you can still catch the Double Take exhibition unitl October 10, 2009. Admission includes a guided tour of the museum and use of the libarary. Admisiion cost is only P60 for elementary students with IDs, P80 for High School students, and P100 for adults. They are open Mon–Sat, 8am–5pm (except Holidays).
