Help Save Pasig River, Run the Pasig River Marathon

Pasig River Marathon
The Philippine International Marathon 2009: A Run for the Pasig River, as organized by the Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP) will be held on November 08, 2009. They’ll have have the Quirino Grandstand and Luneta Park as the starting and finish line, respectively.
Pasig River Marathon
This would be a great opportunity for running enthusiasts and supporters of the revival of Pasig River. The marathon is open to both public individuals and corporate groups (relay category). Participation fee for individuals is P250.
With Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP) having been launched February 2009, they aim to show the current state of the Pasig River and to have the runners get close to the river using a nontraditional route alongside the river itself in some path and crossing nine of the 13 bridges along the waterway.
For the relay category, each group can have 20 or 40 people per team. The full marathon route is 42k and divided into twenty (20) points and further subdivided into distances in between points. Prominent landmarks or bridges along the marathon route will be assigned.
The marathon will be under the technical supervision of Rudy Biscocho (race director) and his team.
First time runners are also encouraged to join as there will be free running clinics for them to be handled by the Pinoy Ultra Runners.
Relevance
Indeed, highlighted by the overflowing of the Marikina River and climate pattern changes as evident from the recent typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng, actions towards cleaning our rivers are all the more made essential.
It may not be done in a single snap or an event marathon, but with sustained efforts and support of the community, the Filipino can do it.
