Buhian Diversified Farm Starts Our Mindanao Organic Farms’ Tour
We have worked with the Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) a number of times with regards to Organic Farming.
They have brought us to Costales Farms in Laguna, Sagada, and Bacolod in Negros in the past few years. So we were excited to know that this time around, we are going south!
Misamis Oriental & Bukidnon
Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon are among the major agricultural production areas in Mindanao. It is home to some of the finest organic farms and agritourism sites in the region.
And with the new president coming from Mindanao as well, I think this is perfect timing. 🙂
Buhian Diversified Farm in Misamis Oriental
As much as 4 out of the 5 farms we visited are based in Bukidnon, we are starting our organic farm tour with the farm from Misamis Oriental – Buhian Diversified Farm.
Specifically located in Initao town, Buhian Farm is a 1.2 hectare coconut land dedicated to natural and organic farming and livestock poultry, vegetables, herbs, and mushroom. It is quite accessible from the provincial airport of Laguingingan, about 30 minutes or midway before reaching Cagayan De Oro City proper from the airport.
Owned by entrepreneurial couple Ms. Nemia Penita Buhian and Engr. Edgar Buhian, the farm is divided into two sections, one is for the actual farming and livestock activities, while the other is for processing them into finished products.
The first area hosts the coconut farm areas, livestock integration, and coconut-cacao nurseries.
The second area handled coconut processing enterprises such as copra processing, VCO production. charcoal production, and coconut products. A vegetable garden and the Farm Business School are also situated inside.
Nutri Peth Coco Products
With such variety of activities, the couple intends to strengthen their product placement in coco products. With the branding “Nutri Peth” Coco Products, they intend to be a model learning institution in their locality showcasing best sustainable coconut farm organic agricultural procedures, farm products, and climate change resilient practices.
The set of their 100% All-Natural Coconut Products are the following:
- Coconut Sweet Tuba
- Coconut Spicy Vinegar
- Coconut Sugar
- Coconut Jam
- Coconut Bocayo
- Coconut Bocarillo
Add to that the Buko Yema, VCO, Coco Bread, and Coconut Sap Vinegar.
Other farm value added enterprises includes an organic piggery (baboyang walang amoy), native goats raising, itik production, honeybee production, broiler production, container gardening, assorted vegetable production, and incubation of Florida Oyster Mushrooms.
They also offer general farm trainings, capacity building on organic livestock production and management, and farm tours.
The farm uses organic fertilisers and verni-composting while recycling non-biodegradable materials.

Overall, it was a quick but interesting farm visit in Buhian Diversified Farm. And of course, we tasted some of their coconut products. Among those that Let’s Go Sago recommends are the Coconut Bocayo, Coconut Bread, and Buko Yema which are all great for ‘pasalubongs‘ back to Manila. 🙂
