The Philippines‘ Puerto Princesa Underground River made it in the provisional New 7 Wonders of Nature as announced yesterday, 11-11-11, by the New7Wonders (N7W) founder and president himself – Bernard Weber.
The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park can be found in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, at the western side of the Philippines. Situated along the Saint Paul Mountain Range, it is bordered by St. Paul Bay and Babuyan River .

The entrance to the Subterranean River is a short hike from the town of Sabang, also in Puerto Princesa. It is also referred by some as St. Paul’s Subterranean River National Park, or St. Paul Underground River.
So are we to rejoice as a nation as more tourists might come flocking to the Philippines to experience Puerto Princesa Underground River in Palawan? Not so fast.
Being part of the provisional list of the New7Wonders of Nature means that they are the current results based on the first count of votes as per 11/11/11 and is still subject for validation and verification by an idependent body afterwhich the final results will be revealed in early 2012.

This contest has been going on for too long. Maybe it’s good for the Philippines but it’s starting to sound like a baranggay beauty contest to me.
Hi Yodi,
The length (which is years) of the New7Wonders contest has been announced since from the start so I have no issues with it. In fact, I think it’s good since it’s “global” so that the campaign can reach more grounds worldwide and give it more of the “global” results.
However, it is not without its own issues like its alleged enormous fees to ‘participate’ which prompted Maldives to withdraw its entry.
I’m just glad that the Philippines is in so that at least the ‘investment’ would somehow go back to the Philippines through tourism ‘if’ huge sums were spent to ‘participate.’ 🙂
