DOT & Globe Join Forces to Boost Tourism
Intramuros, Manila – As a well-known historic tourist attraction in the metro hosted the event of partnership between the Department of Tourism and Globe Telecom, they bid to boost Philippine tourism and increase revenue for the nation through a dynamic tourism industry last June 11, 2012.
As part of the partnership, DOT and Globe Telecom will go forth with programs that will boost awareness and elicit excitement amongst foreigners and Filipinos all over the world to travel to the Philippines for vacations, reunions, conferences or investments. DOT and Globe believe on this contrivance to develop the country’s tourism industry through increase arrivals and revenues.
Pinoy Invites the World
They launched the “Pinoy Invites the World” campaign, inviting the globetrotting Filipinos to send video clips online that documents their travel and experiences in and around the country which captures the visual splendor of the archipelago. Almost 160 video clips were submitted and the best videos were chosen. The best clips will also be used to produce a new global advertisement to be aired internationally.
Pinoy Homecoming
They also launched the “Pinoy Homecoming” Convergence Program which was conceptualized to target and attract overseas Filipinos to visit their roots and rediscover the beauty of the Philippines especially on the years of 2011 to 2016, declaring it to be the Pinoy Homecoming Years. According to DOT Assistant Secretary Domingo Ramon Enerio II, the campaign was designed as an incentive based promotional campaign where registered balikbayans can avail various discounts and freebies from DOT partner merchants.
It’s More Fun in the Philippines!
On the other hand, the “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” campaign that embodies a new voice for the Philippine tourism conveying the reason why visitors should come to our country is being pursued worldwide. DOT Secretary Ramon Jimenez, Jr. together with the Presidential party visited United States of America and United Kingdom to urge Filipinos to support the campaign.
Currently, this campaign is being promoted in UK through London’s symbolic double-deck buses, and taxi cabs and subway train stations. The DOT is hoping the campaign would further boost tourism figure this year to 4.6 tourist arrivals and to 10 million by 2016.
On the top of its support for Department of Tourism, Globe Telecom has also partnered with the Manila International Airport (MIAA) for free Wifi service at all terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport including the Manila Domestic Air Terminal.
According to Rizza Maniego-Eala, Group Head for International Business of Globe telecom, “We at Globe are happy to be one of the catalysts of the country’s tourism industry.“
Globe promised DOT to help the tourists to have the best travel experience though their telecommunications services.
