Yes, it has been 365 days since that first post. And today, we’re celebrating LetsGoSago.net‘s first anniversary in the blogosphere! Sago is 1 yr old!

May we invite all our readers, subscribers, and friends to attend a simple anniversary gathering at Starbucks 6750 2/F Makati today at 4:00pm with a Starbucks coffee for the first 20 guests to come. It ends 5pm.

Sago Origins

The travel and food blog LetsGoSago.net was born this same day of the previous year. The blog was conceptualized after 2 years of travel blogging on free blogsite blogspot.com. I also had a separate food blog on WordPress.

After deciding to get more serious with blogging, I thought of buying my own domain and web host.  It was initially thought of as a travel blog. But knowing that there are also a lot of other travel blogs in the community, I was thinking of ways to differentiate it a little. And since dining and eating has a close affinity to travel, why not combine the two.

The next step was to find an appropriate and fitting travel domain name.I was looking for a catchy one, a name that would and could be easily remembered but still has the connotation of travel. A great number of options was considered like ‘GoTravel‘ and the likes. But as we can all expect, almost all the good ones are already owned by someone out there. To make the story short, I ended up with something like “LetsGo“.which sounds like an action word that encourages you to do something, to move. Something positive.

A lot of LetsGo  *blank* derivations was in the short list including LetsGoTravel. I finally ended up with LetsGoSago. I thought that since sago is the term for the Philippine food tapioca and my blog is on travel and food, it was almost perfect, aside from the fact that it is catchy and it rhymes.

I have also observed that most Filipinos take pictures of themselves in the places that they visit. But since I am not that much of a person, I thought of having something to represent me in the photos instead. I was inspired by an earlier practice of Cedric Valera of Travel Factor where they carry around an inflatable horse travel gnome. I thought it would be great to have one myself. So I dug up my chest of old toys and personal memorabilia and I found a cute little monkey with a red shirt.

Albeit without pants, it is still cute. And looking like a local monkey at that, I thought it was a good representative of Philippine travels as well. Being small and handy, it also fits a light packer like me.

What do I call him then? The name ‘Sago‘ was almost necessary, as if I’m calling him to travel with me, “let’s go!”…and hence, LetsGoSago. 🙂

Thanks All!
Thanks All!

After 186 posts through the year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank friends, readers, subscribers, sponsors, and and of course fellow bloggers in the blogsphere for their continued support of Sago and his blog. Let the years to come consists of more travel and food adventures for Sago to be shared with his readers.
